Tips to Remember When Considering Clawfoot Bathtubs

Many people are choosing the vintage or Victorian look instead of the modern look in their bathrooms. This means that more and more people are beginning to go back to the popular clawfoot bathtubs. These tubs are both beautiful and elegant, and they look great in almost any bathroom. Adding a clawfoot tub to your bathroom will no doubt add character and the appearance of relaxation; however, there are a few tips you need to keep in mind if you are planning on installing a clawfoot tub.

Tip #1 - Choose a Reproduction
If you want all the beauty that clawfoot bathtubs have to offer without the problems, you may want to choose a reproduction instead of an actual old clawfoot tub. The older tubs were made of cast iron, and this is very heavy and also happens to rust quite easily as well. Newer reproductions offer you the same great look made of acrylic, which is much lighter and it will not rust either.

Tip #2 - Hide or Dress Up the Pipes
The plumbing for clawfoot bathtubs is quite a bit different than regular tubs. Since they are free standing, usually you will be able to see the pipes. Some people may want to install their tub in a place where the pipes will not be too noticeable, or you can put a skirt around the tub to hide the pipes as well. If you like the whimsical look of the pipes, you can dress them up by getting copper pipes that will look old fashioned and beautiful.

Tip #3 - Clean Carefully
Whether you have one of the old cast iron tubs or a newer acrylic clawfoot tub, you will need to clean them carefully. You should avoid using cleaners that are too harsh, and you should also wipe away cleaner immediately instead of just letting it sit on the tub. These will help you make sure that you clean your tub without damaging it in any way.

Tip #4 - Check the Flooring
If you do decide to have one of the old cast iron clawfoot bathtubs in your home, you will want to check out your flooring if you have a basement beneath you or you are installing the tub on the second floor. The cast iron tubs are very heavy, and you will want to be sure that the floor can hold the weight with no problems.

Clawfoot bathtubs look wonderful in almost any bathroom; however, keeping these tips in mind can help you make sure that there are no problems when you install your new tub. Once you get your new clawfoot tub installed, then you can run a warm bath, slide in, and enjoy the relaxation and warmth of the warm water and bubbles around you.
