Reglazing Bathtubs - Make an Old Tub Look New

If you have an old tub that has some surface problems, you may be thinking about getting a new tub. While in some cases a new tub may be a great idea, in other cases reglazing bathtubs can be a great idea as well. Simply reglazing your tub can save you quite a bit of money, and it can make your old tub look almost new again. So, if you do not have the money to totally replace your tub, consider reglazing and replacing the fixtures in your current tub.

Do-it-Yourself vs. Professionals
If you decide that reglazing bathtubs is a good choice for your tub, then you will need to decide who will take on the project. On the one hand, you could reglaze the tub yourself, or you could hire a professional to do it for you. If you are great with do-it-yourself projects, then doing the reglazing on your own will probably save you some money; however, this is no project to mess up on. You will have to make sure that everything is done exactly right to avoid serious problems. Those who have never done any type of do-it-yourself project may want to rely on a professional. Sure, having a professional do it will be more expensive, but it can save you a lot of time and hassle as well.

A Few Tips to Remember
If you do decide to do the reglazing on your own, you need to do it exactly right. The following are a few tips to keep in mind to help you make sure you have a good reglazing experience.

Tip #1 - Ventilate the Area
When you are reglazing bathtubs it is imperative that the area is well ventilated. If the windows in your bathroom will not open, make sure you have some other type of ventilation system to be sure that there is plenty of airflow as you work with the variety of chemicals needed for reglazing.

Tip #2 - Remove or Cover Everything
It is important that you either remove or cover everything in your bathroom except for the tub you are working on. Getting the glaze on anything else could lead to a huge disaster, so make sure everything is either taken out of the room or well covered before you start the reglazing process.

Tip #3 - Do Not Use Your Tub Too Soon
Once you have totally reglazed your tub, it is important that you do not use the tub too soon. You should wait for at least 48 hours before you use your tub at all. Also, remember to wait about 24 hours before replacing the fixtures in the tub as well.
